WHO Centre for the Study of Quality of Life Investigating Nurses and ODP’s Perceptions of Adverse Events

Comments Off

Thank you for your interest in our study. Please read on to find out more about our project.

What we are doing…

At the WHO Field Centre for the Study of Quality of Life at the University of Bath we are exploring the thought processes and patterns that occur during surgical procedures, in particular those that relate to adverse events.

With the help of willing health professionals, we are doing research to explore adverse surgical events from the perspective of the theatre team, to find out how human errors in thinking processes contribute to things going wrong. We are looking at whether any warning system operates during this process that might ‘flag-up’ impending errors, which could then be of great importance in preventing future errors.

We have already talked to surgeons and anaesthetists about their experiences and are now gathering the perspectives of nurses and operating department practitioners. As an experienced member of the theatre team, your views on this topic would be of great use to the study.

How you can help us…

We are looking for nurses and ODP’s with more than 2 years theatre experience to volunteer to take part in telephone interviews about their experiences. If you fit into this category, we would love to hear from you. Before you decide if you would like to take part, we want to explain why the research is being done and what your participation would involve.

Read on to find out what will be involved if you participate in this research…
